Your Smile, Optimized by Clinical Research. Assisted by Your UBC Plan.
At Point Grey Orthodontics, we understand the unique needs of the UBC community. Whether you are a student, a PhD candidate, or a Faculty member, we’ve designed our practice to be your local “Academic & Clinical Hub” for Invisalign and modern orthodontics.
Why do UBC Students & Faculty Choose Point Grey Orthodontics?
- The Research Advantage: As a proven clinical research publisher during his time at UBC, Dr. Yash Bichu bridges the gap between the latest evidence-based orthodontic research and your chairside care.
- Specialist Expertise: While general dental plans may vary, seeing a Board-Certified Specialist ensures you are receiving the highest tier of orthodontic precision—crucial for complex Invisalign cases.
- Convenience: We are located just minutes from the University Campus, Endowment Lands and Wesbrook Village—perfect for a quick appointment between lectures or lab shifts.
Understanding Your Insurance (AMS/GSS & Sun Life)
Navigating dental coverage shouldn’t be harder than a midterm. Here is how we help you utilize your insurance benefits:
For Students (AMS/GSS - Pacific Blue Cross)
Most UBC students are automatically covered by the AMS/GSS Health & Dental Plan.
- The Check: Look for the “AMS med/dent fee” on your UBC tuition statement to confirm your enrollment.
- Coordination: If you are covered by a parent’s plan as well, we can help you coordinate benefits to significantly reduce your out-of-pocket costs.
- The “Blackout” Period: Starting in September or January? We’ll help you navigate the initial insurance “blackout” period so your treatment isn’t delayed.
For Faculty & Staff (Sun Life)
UBC Faculty and Staff typically have robust orthodontic coverage through Sun Life.
- Lifetime Maximums: Many UBC employee groups have a $3,000 lifetime orthodontic maximum per person.
- Insurance Assistance & Predetermination: Our team handles the heavy lifting. We submit a Predetermination to Sun Life before you start, so you know exactly what is covered before spending a dollar.
