Board Certified Orthodontic Specialists — What That Means
The term ‘orthodontist’ is sometimes used loosely. At Point Grey Orthodontics, both Dr. Yash Bichu and Dr. Alexa Herbertson hold the FRCDC designation — Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada — which is the gold standard certification for orthodontic specialists in Canada.
To earn this designation, a dentist must complete a university-based orthodontic residency of at least two years after dental school, pass a rigorous national examination, and demonstrate clinical proficiency across a range of complex cases. Not all orthodontists in Vancouver hold this certification.
What We Treat

The Technology We Use
We use the iTero Lumina 3D scanner — the most advanced intraoral scanner currently available — for all records and Invisalign treatment planning. This means no physical impressions and no uncomfortable trays. The scan takes minutes and gives us a precise 3D model of your teeth. For Invisalign patients, it generates an Outcome Simulator — a visual preview of your result before treatment starts.
No Referral Needed
You do not need a referral from your family dentist to book a consultation with us. We welcome self-referrals and will coordinate with your dentist throughout treatment to ensure your care is joined up. If we spot anything outside our scope during your assessment, we will let you know and direct you to the right professional.
