About Us
Point Grey Orthodontics delivers expert, personalized care through the combined experience of Dr. Yashodhan (Yash) Bichu and Dr. Alexa Herbertson.
Dr. Bichu is a Board-Certified Specialist in Orthodontics and an Invisalign Platinum provider, with advanced training from UBC and more than 15 years of clinical experience in India and the UAE. Dr. Herbertson brings more than 30 years of orthodontic expertise, along with a DMD from UBC and a PhD in Bone Cell Biology from the University of Toronto. Together, they lead a friendly, professional team known for delivering exceptional results and putting patients at ease. The Point Grey Orthodontics team is passionate about what they do and genuinely excited to help you achieve a healthier, more confident smile.

Dr. Alexa Herbertson, DMD, PhD, FRCDC
I am a Certified Specialist in Orthodontics who has been practicing in the Point Grey community for close to 30 years. Our practice has been distinguished by our deep connection to the local community and our commitment to personalized, ethical, and exceptional orthodontic care.
I received my Doctor of Medical Dentistry from the University of British Columbia and then went to the University of Toronto to complete my Diploma in Orthodontics along with a PhD in bone cell biology.
I have taught at UBC part-time since returning to BC, in both the undergraduate and graduate dental clinics, and continue to teach in the CDA orthodontic module. I have been an examiner for the Royal College of Dentists of Canada and the President of the BC Society of Orthodontists.
I have lived in Point Grey for close to three decades. My boys, Declan and Aidan, were born and went to school in Point Grey. In my free time, I enjoy walking my dog-Violet, games nights with my friends and family, and devouring books! With my husband Dale, I love hiking, and any time on the water; especially if fishing is involved!
Dr. Yashodhan (Yash) Bichu, BDS, MDS, FRCDC
I come from a family of doctors and knew healthcare would be my calling from an early age. I earned my dental degree with honors in 2006 and Master’s in Orthodontics as a Gold Medalist in 2010 from India. In 2024, I completed my orthodontic specialty recertification at the University of British Columbia. I am a Board Certified Specialist Orthodontist and clinical researcher with over 15 years of experience gleaned by crafting healthy and confident smiles at practices in India, the United Arab Emirates, and Canada.
In addition to being an Invisalign Platinum Provider, I am a published researcher recognized for my work on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Orthodontics and Clear aligner therapy, with over 800 citations in peer-reviewed journals. As a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada (FRCDC), I am dedicated to bridging the gap between academic research and elite clinical care. I strive to provide my patients with the most advanced orthodontic solutions available by combining cutting-edge technology with evidence-based patient-centered care; while ensuring that my patients are treated like family within our practice.
I love spending time with my wife, Aditi, who is currently pursuing her orthodontic residency program at UBC, and our daughter, Anahita. We live in the UBC neighbourhood and love our lifestyle on the west coast, and are truly grateful that we’ve set down roots in the community we serve!
Naba - Scheduling Co-ordinator
I am the PGO front office staff, and focus on scheduling, filing, and supporting our day-to-day office operations. Originally from Mongolia, I moved to Canada in 2021 to pursue my master’s degree. Before joining Point Grey Orthodontics, I worked at Cypress Mountain, where I also learned to snowboard. My favorite thing about Canada is the beautiful landscape and the friendly people. I looks forward to getting to know you better and supporting your orthodontic care- whether it’s to schedule convenient appointments for you or to help you with with your insurance procedures.
Maryam - Certified Orthodontic Assistant
Maryam is a multi-faceted creator, designer, Certified Dental Assistant, and educator. With a background of dental education, she brings a refined eye for detail into every artistic, clinical, and educational space she works in.
Professionally, Maryam has several years of experience as an Orthodontic Certified Dental Assistant (CDA). She completed the Orthodontic Module at The University of British Columbia (UBC) in 2020, which strengthened her advanced skills in orthodontic assisting, patient care, and treatment coordination. Her dental education background reflects her precision, patience, and ability to work in highly detail-oriented clinical environments.
Alongside dentistry, Maryam is the creative mind behind Maryam’s Art Paradise, where she produces illustrations, short videos, podcasts, and emotional storytelling pieces that blend imagination with cultural depth. Her signature approach brings softness, symbolism, and authenticity to every artwork. She strives to provide outstanding orthodontic care and build long term relations with our patients—always with heart, honesty, and a touch of magic!
